A New Species of Nambaroo (marsupialia; Macropodoidea) from the Miocene Camfield Beds of Northern Australia with Observations on the Phylogeny of the Balbarinae

چکیده
Nambaroo bullockensis sp. nov. is a structurally primitive macropodoid from the Bullock Creek Local Fauna of the Camfield Beds of the Northern Territory, Australia. This species extends the range of Nambaroo from the late Oligocene or early Miocene up to the middle Miocene. Despite its young age, N. bullockensis retains many features thought to be plesiomorphic for macropodoids. Cladistic analysis based on characters of m1 for this new species and all other balbarines shows Nambaroo to be paraphyletic, but supports the monophyly of Ganawamaya and Balbaroo.

متن کاملA New Species of the Basal “Kangaroo” Balbaroo and a Re-Evaluation of Stem Macropodiform Interrelationships
Exceptionally well-preserved skulls and postcranial elements of a new species of the plesiomorphic stem macropodiform Balbaroo have been recovered from middle Miocene freshwater limestone deposits in the Riversleigh World Heritage Area of northwestern Queensland, Australia. This constitutes the richest intraspecific sample for any currently known basal "kangaroo", and, along with additional mat...
متن کاملPhylogeny of Onobrychis sect. Hymenobrychis (Fabaceae) based on chloroplast DNA sequence data
Phenetic analysis of morphological characters in different species of Onobrychis Miller sect. Hymenobrychis DC. (Fabaceae), classified them in two main groups based on corolla features. To determine the phylogenetic relationships among the 13 species, chloroplast DNA sequences were used. Analysis of these data resulted in a well-resolved and well-supported phylogeny. Phylogenies generated by ma...
متن کاملThylacinus (Marsupialia: Thylacinidae) from the Mio-Pliocene boundary and the diversity of Late Neogene thylacinids in Australia
Thylacinus yorkellus is described as a new, moderately small-bodied species of thylacinid from the latest Miocene or, more likely, earliest Pliocene of South Australia. The new species can be diagnosed by the autapomorphic presence a strongly developed precingulid that terminates in a cuspidule on the anterobuccal face of the paraconid of the lower molars and a tiny basal anterior cuspidule on ...
